Mansfield Town Ladies 1-0 Loughborough Students WFC

Sunday 22nd April 2015 : kick off 2:00pm

Venue: Rainworth MW,  Kirklington Road,  Rainworth,  Notts

Competition:  F.A. Women's Premier League Midlands Division 1

Scorer: Emma Allen (52)

After watching the Stags Ladies team in action last week, I wasn't going to bother with this game, but "Office Team" John Harris mentioned that he was going to be there to watch his daughter Lucy play, so with nothing better to do, I thought I'd join him.

Shake...

This was so much more enjoyable than last weeks victory over bottom team Curzon Ashton, but at times it took some really solid defending to keep the Students at bay.  Although their visitors were missing several of their regular starters as the Easter break beckons, they looked good on the ball and can count themselves unlucky that they left Rainworth with nothing. They actually beat the Stags 7-1 in the reverse game three weeks ago.

John made a wonderful donation to the "maggie's" fund for which I thank him most sincerely - £0.25 for every goal the Students have scored so far this season.  Table

The pitch at Rainworth is rock-hard and made ball control somewhat difficult, but after a settling down period, both teams came to terms with the conditions. The Students should have gone ahead just before the break,  but their striker struck the ball wide of the post from close range when it seemed that a stooping header would have been a more fruitful option. H-T 0-0

The home team took the lead seven minutes into the second half when corner hit low in from the right sailed past a crowd of players and was met at the far stick with a neat volley from EMMA ALLEN that flew into the net. Despite throwing everything at the Mansfield backline, Loughborough struggled to find a way through the resolute home team defence. They were unlucky not to have been given a penalty late on in the game when Rebecca Davis appeared to handle when she cleared a shot off the line, but the Referee was having none of it - looked a stone-waller to me! F-T 1-0

MTFC Ladies game seen - two, MTFC Ladies games won - two.  There are still three home league games to play:- 8th April v Radcliffe Olympic, 19th April v Leicester City, 26th April v Leafields Athletic. Hope to get to the Sunday games...watch this space!
