Clipstone needed a win to keep up their promotion hopes - after close rivals AFC Emley lost to Hemsworth earlier in the day.

This turned out to be a great day for "maggie's" - not only did the goals add a further £2.25 to the pot, there were kind donations made by Pinxton's LEE COOK, local author ROGER RANN and Mansfield Sunday League Chairman ANDY CRUDDACE. The total now stands at £596.00! If you are fed up of reading or hearing about our fund raising, I apologise - but the season is nearly over and I promise there will be no more charity "ontheroad" blogs after this one.

Clipstone had the games first real chance after 9 minutes had been played, but Jamie Smith failed to convert after Jamie Brown's shot had been parried by Rossington keeper Simon Dye. From the resultant corner Smith connected well, but his header was straight at Dye.

The same combination were unlucky again on 13, this time Brown picking out Smith in front of goal, but the striker fired just wide of the target. The home team pressure paid off seconds later though when Luke Thomas, encouraged by his bench to be positive, raced into the box from the right and drilled the ball to the near post where MATTY ORD was on hand to fire into the roof of the net.

Ord opens the scoring

Nick Siddon in the Clipstone goal had to parry a Josh Rumble effort in the 18th minute, and also had to be alert to claim the loose ball before hot-shot Lee Holmes could get a boot to it.

Siddons alert

On 20, Brown produced a quality volley from a Thomas right wing cross that Dye did well to push away. At the other end, Jordan Hatton hit a fierce drive from 22 yards that brought out a smart diving save from Siddons.

On the half-hour, Stu Hill headed Matt Austin's corner just over the bar, and five minutes later Smith saw his powerful header crash against the Rossington bar. Thomas played in Brown shortly after, and the visitors had to thank Dye yet again as the custodian palmed the effort away for a corner.

On the stroke of half-time, Clipstone added their second when JAMIE SMITH decided to keep the ball some 20 yards out, despite several shouts for him to pass it, and stepped past a couple of defenders before drilling the ball low and hard past Dye. H-T 2-0

Smith adds the second

Rumble kicked the ball off the line on 48, denying Ash Rawson, and from the corner Smith headed just over. As Clipstone kept up the pressure, Smith made a run to the goal-line, but saw his shot easily collected by Dye.

Siddons was called on again after 57, saving from Dan Smith after the full back had combined well with Holmes. Jason Stokes also had a shot saved by Siddons soon after, the keeper palming the 25 yard drive away to safety.

Ord challenged Stuart Fielding for the ball on 68, and after leaving the centre back on his knees, Ord raced into the box and forced a block out of Dye. Austin's corner flew across the goal and when Dye misjudged the flight of the ball, Rich Mintoff stuck out a leg at the far stick and the ball ended up in the back of the net.

Mintoff knew little about this!!

Brown went close again on 75, but his shot cannoned off the bar, and the bar again came to Rossington's rescue with two to play, this time Ord's shot rattling the woodwork. F-T 3-0
