This game attracted a decent crowd of 162, although I suspect Lee Hendrie's appearance on Sky Sports earlier in the day boosted the gate a little. Also, Forest season ticket holders were allowed into the game for free - add to this the fact that it was a Bank Holiday and the weather was stunning, and you have the recipe for a good gate.

Those present saw a competitive game with both teams playing some decent football - and although Dunkirk ended the game with nothing to show for their endeavours, they showed a marked improvement from when we saw them lose 6-0 at Basford in March.

Basford are top of the MFL Premier Division table, whilst Dunkirk are struggling near the bottom, but the home team gave as good as they got early doors. The actually took the lead on 20 when a defender was adjudged to have handled and CARL SPENCER sent Saul Deeney completely the wrong way from the penalty spot.

1-0

United were soon back on terms though, a RYAN WHITEHURST 20+ yard effort flying past a static Jake Want in the Dunkirk goal. Two minutes later Basford netted again, this time a simple tap in from close range for TYRELL SHANNON, after Stuart Hendrie had found room down the right and fired the ball into the six yard box.

Shannon gives Basford the lead

Deeney made a great diving save to deny Spencer an equaliser on 35, but seconds later the visitors increased their lead when STUART HENDRIE beat Ryan Hastie to the ball, fired it off the foot of the post and slotted home the rebound. Deeney had to be alert again on 43, diving to palm away a fierce Scott James drive. H-T 1-3

Stu Hendrie makes it 1-3

LEE HENDRIE had a long range effort palmed down by Jake Want eleven minutes into the second period, but that was only a rehearsal as four minutes later the former Aston Villa star fired another shot from 25 yards that sailed over the despairing dive of Want. What a strike - can't wait for the Basford United TV highlights.......

Lee Hendrie (out of shot) adds the fourth

James was again foiled by Deeney on 71, and the keeper's opposite number had to save well after Lee Hendrie's 50 yard pass had picked out brother Stuart, and the winger hit a firm volley goalwards.

Dunkirk added a second goal with 5 to play, Kevin Hemagou laying the ball into the path of SCOTT JAMES who rifled it past Deeney at his near post. The next attack saw James almost repeat the feat, this time though the ball flew just wide of the post, then Hastie had a header cleared off the line right at the death. F-T 2-4

Scott James (centre) made it 2-4
