Selston move up to second place in the NSL Senior Division after this win over in form Wollaton. Looks like being a terrific division this season. Cotgrave currently lead, with Wollaton third - but they all need to be aware of a very strong looking West Bridgford team - they've played only four games so far, but have won them all.
Craig Langton
We were surprised to see that Craig Langton was taking a line, but were delighted when he made a nice contribution to the "maggie's" fund. Along with the £64.00 "ice bucket" money Kev handed me earlier, Craig's gift lifted us over the £300.00 mark, and we haven't seen out September yet! I will post an updated list of all the contributors very soon - thanks everyone!!
Please remember that the players write the story, I just try to put their deeds into words - and with so much happening on the pitch, I hope I can do the game justice!!
Selston keeper Jake Simpson made the games first save in the first minute, as Wollaton poured forward in numbers straight from the kick off.
Perry Marriott and Lee Day had a few words with each other soon after - not the last confrontation we were going to witness! Ben Moore had a great chance to put Selston ahead on 12, but lifted the ball high and wide from the edge of the box.
Simpson had to be alert to palm away a Wollaton free-kick with 15 played - all the players in the six-yard area had missed the set-piece, and the ball looked to be heading straight into the goal until the keeper's timely intervention.

Midway through the half, Sean Gregory headed just over from Dom Airey's cross, but on their next attack, Wollaton were given the chance to take the lead after Jordan Alls ran into Sean Gregory in the area and Mr. Mitchell awarded a penalty. ALLS hammered home the spot kick with some power, Simpson no chance.
Alls was involved in the games next incident, but this time he was the victim of a two-footed challenge from Marriott that gave the Referee little option other than to dismiss the Selston no. 5. It could be said that the ball was there to be won, but this was a dangerous challenge that left Alls lying in a heap on the deck.
On 38, Jamie Renshaw also made a two-footed challenge, but made little contact with the Wollaton player, and fortunately for the home team, received merely a yellow. H-T 0-1
I have no idea what Selston boss Karl Steed said to his charges during the break, but the 10 men were certainly firing on all six as the second period began.
Turner brought down Sean Gregory within a minute of the restart, the keeper failing to catch a ball into the box, and tripping Gregory as he latched onto the loose ball.
DOMINIC AIREY smashed the ball to Turner's right - despite the keeper getting a hand to the ball, it was struck with enough power to bulge the net and bring the scores level.
Damien James had a decent chance to put the home team ahead seconds later, but mis-hit his kick when clear on goal. Lee Day was then allowed to run one-on-one with Simpson, but the keeper spread his arms and legs forcing the striker to aim at the far post - unfortunately for the no. 10 the ball flew the wrong side of the post and the chance was lost.

On 50, Gregory made a run down the right before cutting in and smashing a shot into the side netting, and 10 minutes later Steve Smith fired at Turner when Airey picked him out in front of goal.

Gregory appeared to be tripped as he raced into the box again with 57 played, but although it looked a penalty all the way, Mr. Mitchell showed the Selston midfield player a yellow, for what I can only assume was "simulation".
He dived, Ref!!
Gregory was proving to be a pain in the backside for the Wollaton defence, and when Turner brought him down again on 62, not only was the penalty awarded, Mr. Mitchell also showed the keeper his second yellow, followed by the inevitable red.
Turner's replacement was given no chance as AIREY fired home to give Selston the lead. Airey missed a glorious chance to complete his hat-trick in the 72nd minute, but could only fire tamely at the stand in keeper.
When Aaron Mitchell threw his arm around Gregory's neck on 75, AIREY did grab his third, again from the spot, blasting the ball past the keeper before he could react.
AIREY grabbed his and Selston's fourth a few seconds later, a magnificent through ball from the back by Gary Breach dispatched firmly with the outside of his right foot.

The fifth goal was nodded home by DOMINIC CARRAHER with two minutes left to play, the sub picked out at the far post by a neat cross from MOM Airey. F-T 5-2

I was asked to mention our good friend, Selston left-back Jamie Renshaw's charge into the box and tame shot towards the end of the game, but I'll not bother!
6 goals, 4 penalties, 2 dismissals - umpteen yellows. A busy day for the Officials!!

MOM: Dom Airey - tireless running throughout, and four goals to his name. Sean Gregory could argue he did enough to be MOM, but the four goals just shaded it in favour of Airey.
