Buxton FC U21 1-2 Staveley MW U21

Thursday 7th May 2015 - kick off  7:30pm

Venue:  The Forest Town Arena, Clipstone Road West, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire

Competition: NMDL U21 Cup Final

Referee: Mr. Richard Eley

Scorers:
Buxton - Joe Ollerenshaw (90+2)
Staveley - Kurt Morley (49 pen), Ryan Walters (51)

I have to thank Staveley U21 secretary Rob Waite for the team details - Pete Craggs did an admirable job on the PA system, but having a hard copy is never a bad thing.

Line-ups
Buxton: Dixon, Boden, Travis, Doyle, Ollerenshaw, C Johnson, Wilkinson, Hopkins, Airey, Handley, Gemmell. Subs: Knifton-Smith, Evans, Eyre, Betts, Knowles.

Staveley: Butt, Gambles, Fitzpatrick, Bates, Pugh, Finnigan, Watters, Goodwin, Walters, Tijani, Morley. Subs: G Johnson, Board, Harris, Slack, Jessop.

Mohammed Tijani looked lively up front for Staveley early doors, and on 13 hit a fierce drive that Buxton keeper Aaron Dixon did well to push away.  Staveley thought they had taken the lead with 19 played after Ross Goodman's headed looped over Dixon - Mr. Eley had seen an infringement earlier in the play though, and ruled out the effort.

On 37, Ryan Walters had a great chance to break the deadlock after a slip by a defender gave him the opportunity to run in on goal - unfortunately the striker failed to keep his composure and blazed his shot way, way over the bar. Bucks' striker Alex Airey went close just before the break, hitting a low drive that flew past the outside of the post, prompting the aiming of a few verbals at his defence from keeper Chris Butt. H-T 0-0

KURT MORLEY fired home from the spot with just four minutes of the second half played, the penalty awarded after David Boden had tripped a Staveley player in the box. Two minutes later Staveley doubled their lead,  RYAN WALTERS stabbing home a Ryan Watters right wing cross. Dixon had to be alert to save Morley's drive on 57, then from the resultant corner, the Buxton had reason to thank their keeper again as he tipped over Alex Pugh's powerful header.

Noah Evans had a great chance to get Buxton back in the game  in the 74th minute, but blazed his 6 yard effort high, wide and not very handsome! Dixon did well again to block a Walters shot with 5 to play, and it was fitting that the Buxton stopper's display earned him the MOM award.

Buxton netted in the second minute of added time - JOE OLLERENSHAW heading delicately over the outstretched arms of Chris Butt, but it was too little, too late for the Bucks and with a further minute played, Mr. Eley brought proceedings to a close. F-T 1-2
