This was the penultimate game of "ontheroad" season 2014-15, just the "Vets" final tomorrow afternoon at Arnold Town to go.  Last week Santos needed to win their final two games of the season to secure the NAA Premier Division title. Part one was successfully completed at Stoke Lane, so they were left with just second bottom team Nottingham Community to contend with, and for the first 30 minutes or so, it looked like the visitors might spoil the party as they gave as good as they got in the first half an hour or so.

Santos striker Carl Wilson had the games first opportunity in the 3rd minute, but after turning in the box the prolific hit-man fired just wide. Jamie Foster had a shot tipped over on 14, but after that it was the visitors who looked the most likely to score the first goal.  Mustafa Mansur saw his looping shot acrobatically tipped around the post with 16 played, then Mark Foster saw his goal-bound effort cleared off the line by Toby King.

Great save...

Foster had a low drive saved well by Santos keeper Jack Payne on 30, but all of a sudden the home team seemed to wake up and when and Jamie Humphries received the ball from Wilson just inside the box, the striker flicked it up and hammered a fierce volley that brought a superb save from Nottingham keeper Toby Hedges.  More pressure forced a corner, and poor marking allowed JAMIE HUMPHRIES time and space in front of goal to power home a header from Keiran Wheat's terrific ball in.

JAMIE FOSTER side-footed the ball past Hedges and into the far corner three minutes later after the visiting defenders failed to clear their box. Right on half-time Santos went three up, CONNOR SCOTT-PARKIN hitting a shot from 25 yards that flew over the outstretched arms of Hedges before dipping and dropping into the back of the net.  H-T 3-0

Tom Fortune to Jamie Foster....

CARL WILSON was the League's joint top scorer before kick-off and needed just one goal to become outright topgun. He had very few chances in the first period - but he converted his first chance of the second after he was gifted the ball 20 yards out and held off a challenge from Alex Pinto before bulging the back of the net.

This fourth goal all but took the wind out of the Community sails, and left Santos in cruise mode. They had plenty of the ball but were seemingly, like the rest of us, waiting for the final whistle so the celebrations could begin. KEIRAN WHEAT added the Santos fifth on 90, his cross from the right flying past everyone and nestling in the far corner. F-T 5-0

Footnote:  Santos player Luke Williams suffered an horrific cruciate knee ligament injury when the teams met in the first game of the season in September. Apparently he collided with a post when trying to stop a shot from crossing the line. Fitting somehow that Luke was back in the yellow and blue for this game - the final game of the season - and against the same opposition. It's a funny old game......
